David Inshaw is a British painter known for his dreamlike, highly detailed landscapes that blend realism with a sense of mystery and symbolism, often depicting the English countryside bathed in twilight or moonlight. He was a founding member of the Brotherhood of Ruralists in 1975, alongside Peter Blake and Graham Ovenden, a group dedicated to celebrating rural life and Romantic English traditions in opposition to prevailing trends in contemporary art. His celebrated work 'The Badminton Game' (1972, 1973), now held in the Tate collection, exemplifies his signature style of meticulous detail, elongated perspective, and an uncanny, timeless atmosphere that draws comparisons to the Pre-Raphaelites and Stanley Spencer.
