Charlotte Moorman was a pioneering American avant-garde cellist and performance artist, often called the 'Imogen of the Avant-Garde,' who became a central figure in the Fluxus and Neo-Dada movements. She collaborated extensively with Nam June Paik, performing iconic works such as 'TV Bra for Living Sculpture' (1969) and 'Concerto for TV Cello' (1971), which fused classical performance with radical technology and the human body. As founder and organizer of the Annual New York Avant Garde Festival from 1963, she championed experimental music and performance art, cementing her legacy as one of the most daring and influential figures in 20th-century American art.
