Jan Vercruysse

Jan Vercruysse (1948, 2018) was a Belgian conceptual artist known for his austere, philosophically charged works that engaged with themes of absence, language, and representation. His practice spanned sculpture, photography, installation, and works on paper, often employing minimalist aesthetics to probe the boundaries between object and meaning. Vercruysse was a significant figure in European conceptual art, exhibiting widely in international institutions and representing Belgium at the Venice Biennale in 1990.
