Born in London in 1866, she developed an early passion for the natural world, spending summers in the English Lake District and Scotland where she sketched flora, fauna, fungi, and small animals with extraordinary precision. Her scientific interest in mycology led her to produce detailed botanical illustrations of fungi, some of which were presented to the Linnean Society of London, though her work was not fully recognized during her lifetime due to the barriers faced by women in Victorian science.
