The Bamum people of the Grassfields region in Cameroon have long been celebrated for their sophisticated artistic traditions, particularly their elaborately carved and adorned helmet masks used in royal ceremonies, initiation rites, and masquerade festivals. These masks, typically crafted from wood and embellished with glass beads, cowrie shells, brass, and fabric, reflect the hierarchical social structure and spiritual beliefs of the Bamum kingdom. Produced by skilled court artists under the patronage of the Sultan, these works represent some of the finest examples of Central African ceremonial art.
