Baccio Bandinelli (1493, 1560) was a prominent Florentine sculptor and draughtsman who served the Medici court and became one of the leading figures of Mannerist sculpture in Italy. He is best known for his monumental marble group Hercules and Cacus (1534) in the Piazza della Signoria in Florence, commissioned by Pope Clement VII. Bandinelli was also a prolific draughtsman whose drawings have appeared regularly at major auction houses, reflecting his importance as a Renaissance and Mannerist master.
