Augustin Lesage was a French self-taught artist and spiritualist who became famous for his intricate visionary drawings and paintings. Beginning his artistic career after a spiritual awakening, he created elaborate symmetrical compositions that reflected his spiritual beliefs and mediumistic experiences. His work was celebrated by Surrealists and remains an important example of Art Brut and outsider art.
