Athi-Patra Ruga works across performance, tapestry, costume, and installation to explore queer identity, futurism, and post-apartheid South Africa. His elaborate self-portraits in drag and his tapestry series create mythological narratives about a fictional utopia called 'Azania.' He has exhibited at the Palais de Tokyo, the Zeitz MOCAA, and the Venice Biennale.
