Anne-Louis Girodet de Roucy-Trioson (1767, 1824) was a French Neoclassical painter and pupil of Jacques-Louis David who became known for infusing classical subjects with Romantic sensibility and dreamlike atmosphere. He gained fame with works such as 'The Sleep of Endymion' and 'Ossian Receiving the Napoleonic Officers,' which blurred the boundary between Neoclassicism and emerging Romanticism. His literary interests and innovative use of light and mythological themes made him one of the most distinctive French painters of his era.
