Adrien-Jean Le Mayeur de Merprès (1880, 1958) was a Belgian Impressionist painter who traveled extensively throughout Europe, North Africa, and Asia before settling in Bali in 1932, where he found his greatest inspiration. He is best known for his luminous, sun-drenched paintings of Balinese women, gardens, and daily life, often featuring his wife Ni Pollok, a renowned Legong dancer, as his primary model. His work is celebrated for its vibrant use of color and loose, expressive brushwork that captures the light and atmosphere of tropical Bali, and his former home in Sanur is now a museum dedicated to his legacy.
