Mary Abbott

Mary Abbott (1921, 2019) was an American Abstract Expressionist painter known for her richly colored, gestural canvases that bridged the natural world and pure abstraction. A member of the New York School, she was associated with the Cedar Tavern circle and exhibited alongside artists such as Willem de Kooning and Franz Kline, though her work received renewed critical attention later in her career. Her paintings often drew on landscape and organic forms, rendered through energetic brushwork and luminous, layered color.
