Wilson Alwyn Bentley, known as 'Snowflake Bentley,' was an American meteorologist and photographer who pioneered the art of snowflake photography in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He perfected a technique of capturing snowflakes on black velvet to photograph their intricate structures before they melted, producing thousands of stunning macro images. His work popularized the notion that no two snowflakes are alike and bridged the worlds of science and visual art.
