Youssef Abdelké

Abdelké creates drawings and paintings primarily in charcoal and ink that document Syrian life, political prisoners, and landscapes with raw, expressive mark-making. His work has been exhibited at the British Museum, Institut du Monde Arabe, and Sharjah Art Museum. He was imprisoned in Syria in the 1970s for political activism, experiences that deeply inform his powerful figurative works addressing oppression and resilience.
