Viola Frey

American(1933–2004)

Frey created monumental figurative ceramic sculptures, often depicting men in suits and women in colorful glazes, standing up to 10 feet tall. Her work challenged scale conventions in ceramics while exploring gender, power, and domesticity through bricolage and accumulation. Major collections include the Whitney Museum and SFMOMA.
