Gerard Sekoto

Gerard Sekoto was a South African painter and musician born in 1913 who became a pioneer of township art and a key figure in modern African art. He is known for his expressive depictions of township life, particularly in Sophiatown, and for his innovative approach to color and form. Sekoto spent much of his later life in exile in France but remained influential in shaping contemporary African artistic practice.
