Takaezu created closed ceramic forms that bridged Japanese traditions and American Abstract Expressionism, treating her vessels as sculptural canvases for gestural glazes. Her monumental works and innovative sealed pots containing clay rattles are held in over 100 museum collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She taught at Princeton University for two decades, influencing generations of ceramicists.
