Paul Resika is an American painter born in New York City in 1928, known for his lyrical, light-suffused landscapes and seascapes that draw deeply from the European painterly tradition while maintaining a distinctly personal and poetic sensibility. He studied under Hans Hofmann in New York in the 1940s, a formative experience that instilled in him an understanding of abstraction and color relationships. He later traveled to Europe, studying in Venice and Rome, where he absorbed the lessons of the Old Masters, particularly the Venetian colorists. This synthesis of modernist principles and classical painterly values became the hallmark of his mature style.
