Gabriele Basilico (1944, 2013) was one of Italy's most celebrated architectural and urban photographers, renowned for his rigorous, meditative black-and-white and color studies of cities, ports, and industrial landscapes across Europe and beyond. His landmark project 'Milano. Ritratti di fabbriche' (1978, 1980) documented Milan's industrial periphery with a humanistic yet formal precision, establishing him as a leading voice in urban documentary photography. Basilico participated in the iconic 'Mission Photographique de la DATAR' in France (1984, 1985) and later photographed war-scarred Beirut in 1991 and 2003, producing haunting records of urban destruction that brought him international acclaim and exhibitions at major institutions worldwide.
