Nicholas Hlobo creates sculptural installations using ribbon, rubber, leather, and found materials to explore Xhosa identity, sexuality, and gender fluidity. His sensuous, biomorphic forms reference traditional Xhosa beadwork while addressing queer identity in post-apartheid South Africa. He represented South Africa at the Venice Biennale and his work is held in collections at Tate, the Smithsonian, and the Johannesburg Art Gallery.
