Edward Moran (1829, 1901) was a British-born American painter celebrated for his sweeping maritime and coastal scenes, often depicting the sea in dramatic atmospheric conditions. He emigrated to the United States in 1844 and became one of the foremost marine painters of the 19th century, earning recognition for his monumental series depicting American naval history.
