Morris Hirshfield was an American self-taught artist and textile manufacturer who became known for his distinctive naive and surrealist paintings, particularly of animals and female figures. Working primarily from the 1930s onward, his highly stylized and symmetrical compositions featured bold patterns and a dreamlike quality. He is considered an important figure in American outsider art and folk art movements.
