Günter Brus is a founding member of the Vienna Actionists who used his own body as canvas in extreme performances that challenged social taboos and explored trauma in postwar Austria. His most notorious works include 'Zerreißprobe' (1970) and self-painting actions that resulted in arrest and exile. His work is held in major collections including Museum moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wien and documenta archives.
