Benode Behari Mukherjee (1904, 1980) was a pioneering Indian modernist painter, muralist, and teacher who profoundly influenced generations of Indian artists through his work at Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan. Despite losing his sight in 1957, he continued to create art, and his life was famously documented in Satyajit Ray's documentary 'The Inner Eye' (1972). His work masterfully blended Indian classical traditions with modernist sensibilities, encompassing murals, illustrations, and paintings that celebrated nature and everyday life.
