Laxman Pai

Laxman Pai (1926, 2021) was one of India's most celebrated modernist painters, known for his vibrant, lyrical works depicting the landscapes, people, and culture of Goa. A pioneer of Indian modernism, he studied at the Sir J.J. School of Art in Mumbai and later in Paris, where he was deeply influenced by European expressionism and post-impressionism. His prolific career spanning over seven decades earned him the Padma Bhushan and numerous national awards.
