The son of the renowned Henry Thomas Alken, he produced lively and technically accomplished works capturing the energy of fox hunting, steeplechasing, and coaching subjects that were highly popular among the Victorian sporting gentry. His paintings and aquatints have appeared regularly at major auction houses including Christie's and Bonhams, where they consistently attract strong interest from collectors of British sporting art.
