Etienne Nasreddine Dinet was a French Orientalist painter who became deeply immersed in Algerian culture and Islamic life, eventually converting to Islam and taking the name Nasr ad-Din. He was a co-founder of the Société des Peintres Orientalistes and spent much of his life in Algeria, documenting its people and landscapes with vivid authenticity. Beyond painting, he translated Arabic literature into French, bridging two cultures through both art and language.
