Jean Mcewen

Jean McEwen (1923, 1999) was a Canadian abstract painter celebrated for his luminous, color-saturated canvases that explore the expressive and meditative qualities of paint. Largely self-taught, he developed a distinctive style rooted in lyrical abstraction, building rich surfaces through layered glazes and translucent washes of color. McEwen is considered one of the most important figures in the Montreal abstract painting scene and his works are held in major Canadian public collections.
