Bernard Reder
Austrian-Jewish(1897–1963)
Bernard Reder was a multidisciplinary artist born in Czernowitz, Bukovina, working as a sculptor, etcher, engraver, and architect. His work drew deeply from Jewish folklore, Hasidic culture, Greek mythology, and the Bible, as well as the literary world of François Rabelais. He emerged from a rich cultural center of Jewish life in pre-WWI Austria, and his diverse output reflected a synthesis of sacred tradition and classical influence.
