Three Flags
2000
A rare and intimate work by Jasper Johns depicting three nested American flags rendered in acrylic and graphite pencil on four sheets of plastic, dated 2000. The composition echoes Johns's iconic 1958 encaustic 'Three Flags' (Whitney Museum), here reimagined in a more intimate scale with the flags receding in stepped layers. The work is signed and dated lower right and comes directly from the Collection of Jasper Johns, Sharon, CT, making it an exceptionally well-provenanced piece. Exhibited at Craig Starr Gallery's 'Jasper Johns: Flags' exhibition, April–June 2026.
