Three Works: (i) Vowel #54 (E); (ii) Vowel #86 (Y); (iii) Vowel #59 (E) is a triptych by Ed Ruscha consisting of individual vowel letters rendered in acrylic on repurposed book covers. True to Ruscha's longstanding fascination with language, typography, and the visual weight of words, the works isolate single letters as bold, enigmatic graphic forms. The use of found book covers as support adds a layer of cultural residue, grounding the abstracted letters in the material history of printed knowledge.
