Faith Ringgold was a painter, sculptor, and fiber artist best known for her narrative story quilts that combine painting, quilted fabric, and text to address racism, gender inequality, and African American history. She had major retrospectives at the Serpentine Galleries and the New Museum, and her work is held in collections worldwide.
