Cloud Gate
2006
Cloud Gate is a monumental public sculpture by British Indian artist Anish Kapoor, permanently installed in Millennium Park in Chicago, Illinois. Fabricated from 168 highly polished stainless steel plates welded together, the seamless mirrored surface reflects and distorts the surrounding skyline, clouds, and visitors in a continuous panoramic display. The work measures approximately 10 by 20 by 13 meters and weighs around 110 tonnes, making it one of the largest permanent outdoor sculptures in the world. Popularly known as The Bean, it has become one of the most photographed public artworks globally and a defining icon of contemporary sculpture.
