Maiden May
2023
Maiden May is a commanding large scale outdoor sculpture by Arlene Shechet, realized in aluminum and stainless steel with a vibrant teal and silver paint finish. The work presents an energetic abstract form that suggests a figurative presence through its dynamic, interlocking planes and sweeping curves. Installed on the Hirshhorn Plaza in Washington D.C., the sculpture exemplifies Shechet's mastery of industrial materials transformed into expressive, humor infused compositions. This work is courtesy of the artist and Pace Gallery and represents a significant moment in Shechet's practice of making monumental metal sculpture.
