Mary Heilmann

Heilmann creates exuberant abstract paintings and ceramic sculptures that combine geometric forms with loose, gestural brushwork and vibrant color. Her work references California culture, music, and personal memory while challenging Minimalism's rigidity. Major exhibitions have been held at the Whitechapel Gallery, the Orange County Museum of Art, and the New Museum.
