Walter Price is an American painter known for his densely layered, symbolically rich canvases that blend figuration, abstraction, and text to explore themes of race, memory, history, and the Black experience in America. His distinctive visual language incorporates cartoonish figures, architectural fragments, and fragments of language, creating works that resist singular interpretation while drawing on sources ranging from vernacular culture to art history. Price has been the subject of significant institutional attention, with solo exhibitions at venues including the Kunsthalle Basel, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, and Greene Naftali Gallery in New York, and his work was included in the 2019 Whitney Biennial.
