Vera Lutter is a German artist renowned for her large-scale camera obscura photographs, created by transforming rooms and containers into giant pinhole cameras using photosensitive paper. Her works capture industrial landscapes, urban architecture, and interior spaces in monumental black-and-white negatives that invert tonal values, giving her images a haunting, otherworldly quality. She has exhibited widely at institutions including the Gagosian Gallery, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Dia Art Foundation, and her long-exposure technique — sometimes spanning days or weeks — infuses her images with a ghostly temporal layering.
