Hujar was a photographer who documented the downtown New York arts scene and LGBTQ+ community in intimate black-and-white portraits. His subjects included Susan Sontag, Divine, and Candy Darling, capturing the underground culture of the 1970s and 1980s. His work has been exhibited at the Morgan Library & Museum and MoMA, with a major retrospective at Pace/MacGill Gallery.
