Marie Bracquemond was a pioneering French Impressionist painter often referred to as one of the 'Three Great Ladies of Impressionism' alongside Berthe Morisot and Mary Cassatt. She exhibited in three of the official Impressionist exhibitions (1879, 1880, and 1886) and was known for her luminous handling of light and color, particularly in outdoor scenes and domestic subjects. Her notable works include 'On the Terrace at Sèvres' (1880) and 'Tea Time' (1880), though her career was significantly curtailed by her husband Félix Bracquemond's discouragement of her Impressionist pursuits.
