Callum Innes is a Scottish abstract painter known for his meditative and reductive canvases that explore the tension between presence and absence. His signature technique involves applying layers of oil paint and then dissolving or removing them with turpentine, creating works of luminous color and subtle texture. Represented in major international collections, Innes is widely regarded as one of the most significant abstract painters of his generation, and was nominated for the Turner Prize in 1995.
