Avinash Chandra (1931–1991) was an Indian-born British painter known for his vibrant, sensuous canvases that blended figuration with abstraction, often depicting lush, erotically charged landscapes and figures drawn from Indian mythology and his own imagination. He relocated to London in 1956 and became a prominent figure in the British art scene of the 1960s, exhibiting widely and earning critical acclaim for his richly colored, densely layered works. His paintings occupy a unique space between Eastern spiritual imagery and Western modernist abstraction, making him a significant cross-cultural figure in post-war art.
