Intermission (Halloween Iraq): Portrait VI
A haunting face emerges from the rough, tactile surface of muslin cloth, rendered through the bold, gestural marks of woodcut printmaking. The work draws on the symbolic weight of Halloween imagery while situating it within the context of the Iraq War, merging themes of disguise, fear, and political violence. Allora & Calzadilla's collaborative practice uses this striking pairing of medium and subject to probe the performative nature of conflict and the masks societies wear in times of war.
