Elaine Sturtevant (1924–2014) was an American artist renowned for her radical practice of replicating works by her contemporaries, including Andy Warhol, Joseph Beuys, and Felix Gonzalez-Torres, challenging notions of originality, authorship, and authenticity. Working from the 1960s onward, she is widely regarded as a pioneering figure in conceptual art whose work presaged postmodern debates around appropriation and simulation. Though long overlooked, she received major recognition late in her career, winning the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 2011 Venice Biennale.
