Ralph Eugene Meatyard

Ralph Eugene Meatyard (1925, 1972) was an American photographer known for his haunting, dreamlike images that blended surrealism with Southern Gothic sensibility. Working as an optician in Lexington, Kentucky, he photographed primarily on weekends using abandoned houses, masked figures, and blurred motion to create deeply unsettling yet poetic scenes. His work gained significant posthumous recognition and is held in major museum collections worldwide.
