Michel Majerus (1967–2002) was a Luxembourg-born, Berlin-based artist known for his large-scale, visually dense paintings that merged pop culture, graphic design, advertising imagery, and art historical references into a distinctive postmodern aesthetic. His work engaged with the overload of contemporary visual culture, sampling from sources ranging from video games and skateboarding to Abstract Expressionism and Minimalism. Majerus was widely regarded as one of the most promising painters of his generation before his untimely death in a plane crash at age 35.
