Lucien Clergue (1934–2014) was a pioneering French photographer renowned for his evocative black-and-white imagery of the Camargue region, bullfighting, and the female nude. A close friend of Pablo Picasso, he helped elevate photography to the status of fine art in France and became the first photographer elected to the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 2006. His work is celebrated for its sensual interplay of light, shadow, and natural form.
