Lotte Laserstein (1898, 1993) was a German-Swedish realist painter celebrated for her technically masterful portraits and figure studies, often depicting modern women with psychological depth and quiet intensity. Trained at the Berlin Academy of Arts, she achieved significant recognition in Weimar-era Germany before fleeing Nazi persecution to Sweden in 1937, where she spent the remainder of her long career. Her work experienced a major revival in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, with her paintings commanding high prices at auction houses including Sotheby's and Bonhams.
