Larry Poons is a painter who began with systematic dot paintings in the 1960s and evolved into gestural, heavily impastoed abstractions. He was associated with both Color Field painting and Post-Painterly Abstraction, exhibiting widely in the 1960s and 1970s. His work is held in MoMA, the Whitney Museum, and major American collections.
