Jorge Eduardo Eielson (1924–2006) was a Peruvian multidisciplinary artist, poet, and writer whose work encompassed painting, sculpture, installation, and performance. He is best known for his 'Quipus' series, abstract works inspired by the knotted cord system used by the ancient Andean Inca civilization, exploring themes of communication, identity, and the body. A pivotal figure in Latin American modernism, Eielson spent much of his adult life in Europe, particularly Italy, where he developed a distinctive visual language bridging pre-Columbian heritage and contemporary art.
