John Quincy Adams Ward (1830–1910) was one of America's foremost sculptors of the 19th century, celebrated for his realistic and powerful depictions of historical figures, Native Americans, and civic monuments. He studied under Henry Kirke Brown and became a leading force in American sculpture, creating iconic public works such as 'The Indian Hunter' in Central Park and the bronze statue of George Washington on Wall Street. Ward was a founding member and president of the National Academy of Design and is often called the 'Dean of American Sculpture.'
