General Idea was a collaborative trio (AA Bronson, Felix Partz, and Jorge Zontal, active 1969-1994) who worked in conceptual art, media manipulation, and AIDS activism. Their iconic appropriation of Robert Indiana's "LOVE" into "AIDS" (1987) and their FILE Megazine project critiqued mass media and consumer culture. They exhibited at the Venice Biennale, Documenta, and major museums internationally before Partz and Zontal died of AIDS-related illnesses in 1994.
